This marks an internet penetration rate of 77.5%, highlighting the country's rapid digital transformation. The CNNIC's report also revealed that China's digital advancements are playing a pivotal role in promoting new-type industrialization, developing new quality productive forces, and driving economic and social development. In 2023, China continued to emphasize stability as the top priority, relying on the leadership of next-generation information technology to propel high-quality development. The internet infrastructure in the country has been consistently optimized, with significant progress across several areas. The number of IPv6 addresses reached 68,042 blocks/32, the top-level domain name ".CN" reached 201.3 million, and the number of internet wideband access ports surpassed 11.36 billion. Furthermore, the Internet of Things (IoT) is developing at an accelerated rate.

As of December 2023, a total of 337.7 million 5G base stations had been built, covering all prefecture-level cities and county-level cities. The number of active users in IoT devices reached 23.32 billion, accounting for 57.5% of total internet users. The continuous development of mobile communication networks has led to high-quality breakthroughs in multiple sectors, including intelligent manufacturing, smart cities, rural revitalization, and cultural tourism. With this, the 5G network, composed of a "double and"-type network, has been instrumental in driving innovation and expansion in these sectors, laying a solid foundation and providing strong support for the construction of manufacturing power, digital power, and network power in China. As the digital divide narrows, internet penetration rates continue to rise, especially in rural areas. By December 2023, China's rural internet penetration rate stood at 66.5%, an increase of 4.6 percentage points compared to the previous year. To further bridge the digital gap, the central government has been stepping up its efforts to ensure the elderly and disabled enjoy the benefits of digital life. By December 2023, 2,577 families with elderly or disabled members had completed the modification and adaptation of websites and applications for accessibility and disabled-friendly use, benefitting over 1.4 billion smartphones and smart TVs. In addition to expanding internet access, public service applications have also been rapidly accelerating.
The integration of digital technology into public services has made them more convenient and accessible, improving the quality of life for millions of people. Key applications in the transportation and healthcare sectors, such as ride-hailing services and internet hospitals, have seen significant growth - with 90.57 million new users in the transportation sector and 51.39 million new users in the healthcare sector compared to December 2022, representing growth rates of 20.7% and 14.2%, respectively. The flourishing digital landscape has also contributed to the country's economic recovery. Entertainment, tourism, and consumption have experienced significant revival, with the online travel booking userbase reaching 5.09 billion by December 2023, an increase of 86.29 million users compared to the previous year.
Meanwhile, "Cool" Chinese products have become a critical component of online shopping, with 58.3% of consumers purchasing such items in the previous six months. China's digital transformation has not only created new opportunities for economic growth and social development but has also significantly impacted people's daily lives. As the country continues to prioritize stability and leverage digital technologies, it sets the stage for even more rapid digital expansion, cementing its position as a leading player in the global digital economy.
