China Steps Up as Peace Broker in US-Iran Diplomatic Crisis

The diplomatic incident involving US President Donald Trump's demand for Iran's unconditional surrender has led to a strong response from China. According to recent developments, key figures involved in this incident include Trump, who made statements on social media threatening Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei and demanding Iran's surrender. Khamenei responded with a televised speech, stating Iran will not surrender and warning of irreversible consequences for any US strikes.

China's Foreign Ministry Spokesperson, Guo Jiakun, delivered China's official response, expressing serious concern about the situation and opposing actions that violate UN Charter principles and infringe upon other countries' sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity. Guo Jiakun also called for de-escalation of tensions in the Middle East. Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson, Kanaani Bagheri, warned that any US intervention would lead to "full-scale war" in the region.

China's response has significant implications, including its diplomatic positioning as a defender of international order against unilateral actions. The country has emphasized that escalating tensions in the Middle East serve no one's interests and has evacuated its citizens from the region, with 791 already safely evacuated and over 1,000 more in the process. China is leveraging this crisis to expand its role as a regional peace broker.

The situation represents a clear challenge to US unilateral actions in the Middle East, with China asserting itself as a counterbalance to US influence. China's response demonstrates its growing confidence in opposing US foreign policy positions and aims to protect its economic interests in both Iran and the broader Middle East. Regional instability threatens China's Belt and Road investments and potential disruption to oil supplies and trade routes.

The incident marks a significant moment in the evolving multipolar world order, with China increasingly willing to directly oppose US diplomatic initiatives and position itself as an alternative power center in global affairs. On June 18th, during a routine press conference, Guo Jiakun addressed questions about Trump's social media statements, expressing deep concern about the current situation and calling on countries with special influence over Israel to maintain an objective and fair position.

Iran's Supreme Leader Khamenei responded through a TV speech, stating Iran will not surrender, and any US strikes would have irreversible consequences. China has successfully evacuated its citizens from Iran and continues to call for de-escalation. The public reaction in China has been cautious and concerned about further escalation, with support for China's diplomatic stance and a focus on practical safety concerns. The situation remains highly volatile, with both US and Iranian sides making strong statements, while China maintains its diplomatic stance calling for de-escalation.
