Chinese Teacher on Trial for Allegedly Assaulting Student with Ruler, Leaving Her with Broken Skull
In a shocking turn of events, a Chinese court has heard the case of a 9-year-old girl who was left with a broken skull after being hit by a teacher with a triangle ruler. The incident occurred on September 6, 2023, at the Changsha Bocai Meixi Lake Primary School in Hunan province. The teacher, identified as Song Mouming, had been leading a class of 30 students when he became frustrated with the noise level and allegedly used the ruler to intimidate the students.

According to reports, Song Mouming had first taken away a toy from one of the students and then used a stick to hit the desk to restore order. When that didn't work, he allegedly picked up the triangle ruler and hurled it towards the students. The ruler hit the 9-year-old victim, Liu Moumou, on the forehead, causing severe bleeding.
In a twist, Song Mouming claimed during the trial that he had not intentionally thrown the ruler and that it had slipped out of his hands while he was making a "fake throwing motion". However, the prosecution argued that the evidence suggested otherwise, and that Song Mouming's actions were a clear case of intentional harm.
The court heard that Liu Moumou had suffered severe injuries, including a fractured skull, and had undergone emergency surgery. The prosecution has suggested a sentence of 6 to 8 years for Song Mouming, who could face charges of intentional harm.
The case has sparked widespread outrage on social media, with many calling for Song Mouming to be held accountable for his actions. Some have questioned how someone with such a violent temper could be allowed to work as a teacher.
"I don't understand how someone can be so violent towards children," wrote one user on Weibo. "He shouldn't be allowed to work as a teacher, let alone be around children."
Another user questioned the credibility of Song Mouming's claim that he had not intentionally thrown the ruler. "If he was making a fake throwing motion, how did the ruler end up hitting the student?" they asked.
Liu Moumou's mother has also spoken out, calling for the school to take responsibility for the incident and for parents to be more aware of the potential dangers faced by their children in the classroom.
As the court deliberates on the sentence, one thing is clear: this incident has highlighted the need for greater accountability and oversight in schools to ensure the safety and well-being of students.
Weibo users have been sharing their thoughts and reactions to the case, with some pointing to the need for greater awareness and education around issues of violence and aggression in schools. Others have called for harsher punishments for teachers who engage in abusive behavior.
"This is a classic case of a teacher losing control and taking it out on students," wrote one user. "He needs to be held accountable for his actions."
Another user pointed to the need for greater support and resources for teachers to help them manage difficult classroom situations. "Teachers are under a lot of pressure and stress, but that's no excuse for taking it out on students," they wrote.
As the case comes to a close, it remains to be seen whether justice will be served and whether the incident will lead to any meaningful changes in the way that schools approach issues of violence and aggression.
