COP28 Kicks Off with Global Leaders Pushing for Climate Cooperation and Adaptation
The 28th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28) officially opened in Dubai on November 30th and will conclude on December 12th, 2023. With the world experiencing unprecedented warming and greenhouse gas levels continuing to rise, this year is expected to be the hottest on record, surpassing pre-industrial levels by 1.4°C. The conference aims to promote global action in combating climate change, promoting ecological civilization construction, and creating a better future for generations to come.

The United States Climate Envoy, John Kerry, expressed his support for the Sino-US cooperation during an interview with CGTN reporter @AngGao at COP28. He hopes to see more efforts from the US in promoting climate collaboration and advancing bilateral relations between both nations.
At the conference, several high-ranking officials from China attended the opening ceremony, including Chen Zhu, the special envoy for Chinese climate change affairs, Huang Renqiu, Minister of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, Erik Solheim, former undersecretary general and executive director of the United Nations Environmental Programme, and Zhang Xiangko, president of the US Environmental Protection Association. The opening ceremony was presided over by Zhao Yingmin, deputy minister of the Ministry of Ecological and Environmental Protection.
