According to local health authorities, the outbreak is concentrated in the Shunde district, where over 5,298 cases have been reported. Neighboring cities, including Guangzhou, Zhongshan, and Dongguan, have also reported scattered cases, sparking concerns of a wider outbreak.
Chikungunya fever is a viral disease transmitted through the bite of an infected mosquito, typically the Aedes mosquito. Symptoms include fever and joint pain, which can be mistaken for the aftereffects of other illnesses.

The Foshan city government has taken measures to control the spread of the disease, including launching a free nucleic acid testing program for residents in the affected areas. The government has also emphasized the importance of mosquito control, encouraging residents to eliminate stagnant water, kill mosquitoes, and take preventive measures such as applying insect repellents.
The public has taken to social media to express their concerns and share information about the disease. On Weibo, a popular microblogging platform, users are discussing the outbreak and sharing tips on prevention and treatment. Many are calling for action to eliminate mosquitoes and prevent the spread of the disease.
While there is no single individual or official credited with leading the response efforts, the Foshan city government's news office and the provincial, city, and county-level expert advisory committees and disease control institutions are playing key roles in decision-making and execution.
As the situation continues to unfold, residents are advised to remain vigilant and take preventive measures to protect themselves and their families. The government's response efforts aim to contain the outbreak and prevent further spread of the disease.
With the peak summer season underway, concerns about mosquito-borne diseases are running high. The Level III public health emergency response in Foshan serves as a reminder of the importance of community action in preventing and controlling public health crises.
