The incident sparked outrage on Weibo, with many netizens expressing their condemnation of such callous behavior. One user wrote, "There are also brainless influencers in every place, such as half a fox's Weibo video." Others have criticized the lack of empathy shown by those who post such content, with one netizen saying, "People who speak coldly really don't know the cruelty of war, do they? Take a look at the little girl in the bombed area of Palestine and she can still laugh out loud on Weibo videos with disgusting black apple yeans."
A TikTok video has further fueled the controversy, suggesting that it might be TikTok, not Hamas, that could defeat Israel in bringing truth to the world. This video has been met with mixed reactions, with some viewers praising its message while others criticize its use of propaganda.
Zhang Chengwei's Weibo post featuring an Israeli Jew opposing attacks on Palestinians and suffering brutal attacks and arrests by Israeli police is another example that sparked outrage among Weibo users. One user commented, "It proved that they really do not treat Palestinians as human beings, and one day this person will surely suffer revenge! Absolutely."
The use of social media platforms to mock the suffering of Palestinian civilians has further incensed Weibo netizens. One user wrote, "Watching her mock what pathetic state, it's a mother holding the corpse of their child in despair and terrified children covered with dust under bombing on Weibo video." Another user drew a comparison to Adolf Hitler, saying, "So Adolph was right, and everyone misunderstood him."
One post compared the current plight of Palestine to a recollection left by the gods, urging Chinese citizens not to forget their national humiliation and the blood-red hatred that is unsustainable. The post reminded readers of the sacrifices made by their ancestors for peace and prosperity, encouraging them to protect their motherland.
However, not all reactions were serious in nature. One user wrote, "There's only one thing I want to say: She looks so ugly." Among these various responses, the common thread is a strong condemnation of those who mock or downplay the suffering of Palestinian civilians.
The controversy has also extended beyond Weibo, with over 800 EU officials from around the world writing to Von der Leyen criticizing her unchecked support for Israel and calling on the EU to take action. The international community continues to hold its breath as attention turns to the humanitarian crisis unfolding in Palestine.
