The crash occurred on June 12th when a Boeing 787-8 aircraft operated by Air India crashed near the Ahmedabad airport in the Indian state of Gujarat, minutes after taking off. According to eyewitnesses and officials, the plane's signal disappeared at an altitude of approximately 625 feet, less than a minute after it took off. Witness accounts describe a loud explosion and a massive fireball erupting from the crash site, which was located near a medical college dormitory. The crash resulted in significant damage to the surrounding area, with rescue teams and emergency responders rushing to the scene.
Vishwakumar, the sole survivor of the crash, was seated in seat 11A, near the emergency exit. He described the moments leading up to the crash, saying "We heard a loud noise about 30 seconds after takeoff. Everything happened in an instant. When I opened my eyes, I was surrounded by bodies." Despite suffering multiple injuries, including to his chest, eyes, and feet, Vishwakumar is in stable condition and not in danger of losing his life. He was on his way back to the UK with his brother, who was seated in a different row, after visiting their family in India.

The investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing, with Indian authorities working closely with international partners to determine the circumstances surrounding the accident. Chinese President Xi Jinping has sent a condolence message to British King Charles III, expressing his condolences to the families of the victims and wishing the injured a speedy recovery. The owner of Air India, the Tata Group, has announced that it will provide compensation of 10 million rupees (approximately $110,000) to the families of each victim, as well as covering the full cost of medical treatment for the survivor.
The crash has resulted in significant loss of life, with over 200 people killed, including those on the ground. The incident has raised questions about aviation safety and the need for continuous improvement in this field. As the investigation unfolds, Vishwakumar's account will be a key component, providing insights that might not be available through other means, such as flight data recorders or witness accounts. The knowledge that he was able to survive against such odds is a source of inspiration, and his story serves as a reminder of the importance of learning from such tragedies to prevent future occurrences.
