In a remarkable medical breakthrough, Taiwanese singer Tank, whose real name is Lu Jianzhong, has successfully undergone Asia's first heart-liver transplant surgery. Tank's journey to this point has been long and arduous. He was diagnosed with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, a type of genetic heart disease, in 2007, and had to undergo emergency surgery and have a pacemaker implanted in his heart. Unfortunately, his sister also suffered from the same condition and passed away, which had a significant impact on Tank's mental health. Over the past 20 years, Tank has been to numerous hospitals in Taiwan and mainland China for treatment, but none of the treatments were able to provide a cure for his condition. In 2024, his condition worsened, and he was diagnosed with multiple severe diseases, including hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, liver cirrhosis, and heart failure.
Despite his poor health, Tank was determined to continue his music career. However, his condition continued to deteriorate, and he was forced to undergo a heart-liver transplant surgery. The surgery was a complex and high-risk procedure that required precise coordination and expertise from a team of medical professionals. The team, led by Professor Wang Weilin, used a combination of techniques, including extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) and improved liver transplantation, to minimize the risk of complications and ensure the success of the transplant.
The medical team adopted an innovative approach, employing an ECMO-assisted blood flow management strategy, precise anticoagulation management, and real-time temperature control. They also used a modified piggyback liver transplant technique, which allowed for a swift connection between the heart and liver transplants, minimizing the impact on the patient's overall circulation and the transplanted organs. After 12 hours of intense surgery, Tank was finally able to receive a healthy heart and liver, marking a new beginning for the singer.

Tank's journey to recovery was long and arduous, but he eventually made a remarkable turnaround. He has expressed his gratitude to the medical team, his family, and the organ donor, saying that this precious gift has given him the courage and strength to live on. He has decided to continue singing, not only for himself but also for the organ donor who gave him a second chance at life. Tank's decision to continue his music career is a testament to his determination and gratitude, and his music will continue to inspire and touch the hearts of fans around the world.
With this remarkable story, Tank has become a beacon of hope for patients suffering from terminal heart and liver diseases. His experience has shed light on the importance of organ donation and the need for advancements in medical technology to treat complex diseases like hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. As Tank returns to the music stage, his song will be a symbol of hope and strength, inspiring others to persevere through difficult times. His journey is a reminder that even in the darkest of times, there is always hope, and that with determination and the right medical care, anyone can overcome even the most daunting challenges.
