China Rejects EU Accusations of Unfair Trade Practices and Subsidies
China's Foreign Ministry has rejected accusations made by the European Union's chief, who claimed that China is disregarding global trade rules and providing excessive subsidies to support its domestic industries. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiaqun countered that China's industrial development is driven by its genuine capabilities, rather than reliance on subsidies. He emphasized that China's industrial subsidy policies adhere to the principles of openness, fairness, and compliance with World Trade Organization rules.

Guo Jiaqun highlighted that China's new energy capacity has made significant contributions to the global response to climate change and energy transformation. He also argued that concerns over "overcapacity" are essentially a reflection of other countries' anxiety about their own competitiveness and market share, and an attempt to justify protectionist measures. In fact, the European Union has been providing large subsidies to support its own industries, with plans to provide over 1.44 trillion euros in subsidies from 2021 to 2030, and has already disbursed over 300 billion euros by 2024.
The European Union's accusations came during the G7 summit, where the president of the European Commission asserted that China is "weaponizing" its dominance in rare earth elements and transferring excess production capacity to the global market. The Commission president called for a unified response from G7 nations to diversify critical supply chains and counteract non-market policies and behaviors. However, China's Foreign Ministry spokesperson rejected these claims, emphasizing that China's industrial policies are fair and in compliance with global trade norms.
China's Foreign Ministry also expressed strong dissatisfaction with the G7 summit's repeated manipulation of China-related issues, which it believes is aimed at stirring up tensions between regional countries and undermining regional stability. The current situation in the East China Sea and the South China Sea is generally stable, and China urges all parties to work together to maintain peace and stability. China resolutely opposes any interference in regional affairs and destabilizing behaviors, and urges relevant countries to respect the sovereignty and autonomy of regional countries.
Despite the tensions, China's Foreign Ministry spokesperson emphasized that the country is committed to high-level openness and will continue to provide a vast market and development opportunities for European companies. China is willing to strengthen communication and coordination with the EU to properly handle trade disputes and achieve mutual benefits and common development. However, China will firmly oppose any attempts to harm its development rights or sacrifice its interests for the benefit of others.
