Roewe Prices Lidar-Equipped AI Driving at 120,000 Yuan in the Jiayue 07

SAIC's Roewe brand launched the Jiayue 07 extended-range SUV at 119,800 yuan with a lidar-equipped top trim at 144,800 yuan — and says 10,000 orders locked in within two minutes. Driver-assistance tech once reserved for 200,000-yuan cars is now a family-SUV baseline.

SAIC's Roewe brand has repositioned the floor of China's family-SUV market. The Jiayue 07 (家越07) went on sale on October 23 at a limited-time price starting 119,800 yuan, and its official Weibo account says more than 10,000 orders were locked in within two minutes. The audacious part is not the speed but the hardware: the top trim, at 144,800 yuan, carries a roof-mounted lidar and the Momenta R7 high-level driver-assistance stack — technology that until this year was the preserve of 200,000-yuan vehicles.

The lineup is a range of extended-range electric SUVs around 4.9 metres long with five seats. Four trims run from 119,800 to 144,800 yuan (the lidar versions sit at 129,800 and 137,800), and deliveries begin on November 1. The pace of the launch says something about how quickly the segment is moving: the model's official Weibo launch post has drawn modest engagement by the standards of a trending topic, while the real signal — more than 10,000 orders in two minutes — came through sales channels rather than the feed. A Weibo car blogger, whose post carried photos of the vehicle, ran the comparison plainly: high-level driver assistance and an AI cockpit used to be exclusive to 200,000-yuan cars, and Roewe has just dragged them down to a 120,000-yuan price point, resetting the entry ticket for family SUVs.

The launch lands amid a wider price war that has redefined what a mid-budget buyer gets. Competitors have been bundling lidar and city-level assistance into 150,000-yuan vehicles for a year, and Li Auto's recent move to a lifetime battery warranty showed how far brands will go to signal durability rather than price alone. The Jiayue 07's bet is that the deciding factor for family buyers is no longer range or screen count but whether the car can genuinely drive itself through a commute.

Whether the technology holds up at this price is the open question. Momenta's system is already deployed across several brands, but no one has offered it on an extended-range SUV at 120,000 yuan before. The two-minute order rush suggests Chinese family buyers are willing to find out; the deliveries begin in a week, and the first mass-market verdicts on budget lidar arrive with them.
