On April 2, 2025, a 22-year-old female university student, Xiao He, tragically fell into a septic tank and drowned while trying to retrieve her phone that had fallen into a dry toilet at a temple fair in Gansu Province, China. The incident began when Xiao He, who was working part-time at the temple fair, used the restroom and dropped her phone into the dry toilet. In an attempt to retrieve it, she borrowed a shovel and returned to the restroom, where she failed to notice a deep well covered with a rotten wooden board and fell in, resulting in her drowning in the over 2-meter-deep septic tank.
