Fukushima Takes Major Step Towards Decommissioning with Dismantling of Nuclear-Contaminated Water Tanks
The decommissioning of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant has reached a new milestone, with the first-ever dismantling of storage tanks that once held nuclear-contaminated water. According to a statement released by Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) on February 3, the company plans to begin dismantling the tanks within this month. This marks a significant step forward in the cleanup efforts at the plant, which was severely damaged in the 2011 earthquake and tsunami. TEPCO aims to complete the dismantling and removal of the tanks by the end of the 2025 fiscal year.
