Chinese Actress Nai Nai Embroiled in College Entrance Exam Scandal
The Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region's education department has released a statement regarding the investigation into the situation surrounding actress Nai Nai, also known as Na Yining or Nara. The investigation, conducted by a joint working group established by relevant departments in the region, focused on several key aspects of Nai Nai's educational background and her involvement in a special training program at the Shanghai Theater Academy.

Nai Nai was born in December 1989 and registered her birth in Hohhot, Inner Mongolia, in February 1990. Her household registration was transferred out of Inner Mongolia in November 2011. According to the 2008 regulations for ordinary higher education institutions in Inner Mongolia, individuals with a household registration in the region and who meet certain conditions are eligible to enroll in higher education institutions. However, it was discovered that Nai Nai participated in the college entrance examination in 2008 as a student from Hohhot No. 8 Middle School, despite not having any actual academic records or enrollment history at the school. This action is suspected to be a case of falsifying college entrance examination enrollment materials.
The investigation also looked into the establishment of the Inner Mongolia delegation class at the Shanghai Theater Academy, which was established in 2007 to cultivate artistic talents from the region. The agreement between the Inner Mongolia Ethnic Cultural Construction Leading Group and the Shanghai Theater Academy stipulated that students who completed their studies would receive a bachelor's degree from the Shanghai Theater Academy and return to Inner Mongolia for employment. However, Nai Nai applied to retrieve her original graduation certificate and degree certificate for her planned master's study in Norway, which was approved after review, raising questions about whether she fulfilled her obligations under the agreement.
The investigation revealed that Nai Nai scored 449 points in the cultural courses and 87 points in the professional courses in the 2008 college entrance examination. According to the enrollment regulations of the Shanghai Theater Academy in 2008, students who reached the qualified line in both cultural and professional courses, and who matched the enrollment plan and volunteer preferences, were admitted based on their professional course scores from high to low.
The joint working group is continuing to conduct a deeper investigation into the relevant issues discovered during the initial investigation. Based on the outcome of the investigation, appropriate actions will be taken, and those responsible will be held accountable according to the law and regulations. The incident will serve as a lesson to improve the system and strengthen management.
The controversy surrounding Nai Nai's educational background and her involvement in the special training program has sparked a heated debate about the fairness and integrity of the college entrance exam system in China. Many are calling for stricter measures to prevent similar incidents in the future, and the case has raised questions about the accountability of educational institutions and government agencies in ensuring the authenticity of academic records and preventing fraud.
The Shanghai Theater Academy's decision to establish an Inner Mongolia class has also come under scrutiny, with critics questioning the transparency and fairness of the process. The lack of clear information about the selection process has fueled concerns that the criteria for selecting participants may have favored certain groups over others, potentially bypassing deserving candidates due to factors unrelated to talent or potential.
As the investigation continues, the public is eagerly awaiting further updates and consequences for those involved. The case highlights the importance of integrity and honesty in the education system and the need for greater oversight and accountability to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future. The Inner Mongolia autonomous region's joint working group will likely continue to investigate the matter and gather evidence to determine the extent of any wrongdoing, and if necessary, take disciplinary action against Nai Nai.
