Heavy Floods Trapped Nearly 100 Employees at Zhongtu.com's Warehouse in Hebei

1 August 2023
According to a recent report from China Publishing and Marketing Weekly, the book warehouse of Zhongtu.com in Zhuozhou, Hebei Province has been flooded, leaving nearly 100 employees trapped inside the office building. The situation is dire, with limited food supplies that will last only for a day, no heating, drinking water, or dry clothes available.
The incident occurred around 9 pm on August 1st, and the microblogging community has been abuzz ever since. Netizens have been actively posting updates and concerns, with some expressing relief that everyone is safe so far, while others are worried about the safety of rescuers.
One user commented on the poor quality of books purchased from Zhongtu.com in the past, complaining that all their books were broken upon delivery and offering a $5 coupon as compensation. Another user expressed hope for the swift rescue of everyone trapped inside, while others urged people to donate oxygen masks or gas masks to support the rescue effort.
However, some posts have sparked concerns over potential environmental hazards in the area. One concerned citizen reported that a nearby factory was leaking polyethylene, which had caused a child to begin vomiting. The situation has heightened the need for oxygen masks and gas masks for the rescue team.
As of press time, it is unclear how long the employees have been trapped or when they will be rescued. Zhongtu.com friends have shared an update that a rescue team is on standby with 120 members ready to assist, while waiting for gas masks to arrive before entering the office building. The situation remains tense, as mobile phone batteries are almost drained, leaving only a few units of electricity available for communication between the employees and rescue teams.
