Husband Accused of Raping Wife, Sparking Debate on Marital Consent in China
A recent case in Inner Mongolia has sparked widespread debate after a man, Liu Jun, was accused of raping his wife. The man's sister, Liu, is having trouble accepting the fact that her brother has been detained for allegedly committing rape. "How can a husband and wife's intimacy be considered rape?" she asked. Liu Jun, 40, is from Eerguna City and has been married to his wife since 2010. They have a son together, and Liu Jun works on a farm, typically only returning home during the winter and spring months. Liu claimed that her brother had suspected his wife of having an affair about a year ago and had even set up a recording device in their bedroom, which captured conversations between his wife and another man.
