The National Security Department of the Hong Kong Police Force has announced a reward of HK$1 million for information leading to the arrest of eight pro-independence activists who have fled to foreign countries. The announcement was made at a press conference held on the third day, and comes as tensions continue to rise in Hong Kong amid ongoing protests.

The reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest of Alex Cheng Tsz-lok, Roy Kwong Wing-yu, Kelvin Ng Chi-hang, Yu Hin-cheung, Reno Wong Wai-lam, Fong Man-bun, Lo Kin-chung and Lui Tak-hang. The Director of National Security, Lee Hung-wah, emphasized that the activists had organized and incited subversion of state power and damaged Hong Kong's rule of law, and they must be severely punished according to law.

The police are calling on those who have committed crimes in the process of repatriation to return to Hong Kong on their own initiative, and the court may reduce or exempt them from punishment if they actively give up the crime, report it, or cooperate with the investigation. The Supreme People's Procuratorate emphasized that the 8 suspects involved in serious endangering national security crimes had organized and incited subversion of state power and damaged Hong Kong's rule of law, and they must be severely punished according to law.

The announcement has received support from various sectors, including the Provincial government which issued a clear statement on the issue. However, some have raised concerns about the potential consequences of offering such a large reward for information, with fears that it could lead to vigilante justice or further inflame tensions in Hong Kong.

Netizens on Weibo have taken this opportunity to encourage each other to cash in on the bounty amount, with some users claiming that this is the time for fellow Chinese abroad to do their part, and get rewarded handsomely during this economic downturn

In addition to the HK$1 million reward, the police are also calling on members of the public to report any suspicious activity or individuals they may encounter. The move has been praised by some for its effectiveness in cracking down on crime and maintaining social order, but others have criticized it as overly harsh and potentially counterproductive in terms of building trust between the police and
