23 November 2023
The fashion world is buzzing with excitement as the annual flagship event in the industry, Forces of Fashion, organized by VOGUE, reaches its seventh year. This time around, it has made its debut in Shanghai, bringing together creative pioneers, artistic talents, and cutting-edge topics from the world of fashion. The festival kicked off with a bang as Gong Jin, a Chinese designer, joined forces with VOGUE to envision the future of fashion, showcasing a unique fusion of traditional Sichuan embroidery and contemporary design elements.
VOGUE's debut in Shanghai was highly anticipated, and it did not disappoint. The highlight of the festival was the stunning appearance of Gong Jin, who wore Shaoxing embroidery on his body. Gong Jin's vivid peach blossom and romantic elegance flowed from the long sleeves, gently brushing the flower branches. Pink three-dimensional flower embroidery clothing by M Essentials was paired with high-end jewelry by CINDY CHAO, creating an overall look that was a true work of art. Makeup and hair were styled by @StationX_Official, while the photography was handled by none other than @makeupartistga.
The event also had some notable performances from star guest Li Yuchun, who appeared in the top five fashion magazines an impressive six times within a year, with VOGUE appearing twice during that time. Additionally, Li Yuchun was the only artist to have September and October covers in gold and silver at VOGUE.
Yuyu Shi stunned audiences at the Vogue event with her cyber style wearing sunglasses and earrings. Many netizens took notice, posting high-definition videos of her on Weibo. Sichuan embroidery, one of China's four famous embroideries, was showcased in the event, with pandas being a representative pattern. This art form is from Chengdu, Sichuan, making it a fitting choice for the festival's theme.
Another highlight of the festival was Yang Yibai's appearance, who wore Xander Zhou's recently released Spring and Summer 2024 series. The tough yet futuristic look was a hit among netizens, with many praising the series for its interpretation of the sense of futurism and cybernetic models.
Gong Jin, an inheritor of traditional Chinese handicraft Suzhou silk embroidery and national treasure Panda, chose to focus on the theme of fashion power, promoting traditional Chinese culture, and showcasing the influence of Asian fashion. This marked a new level in his career, as well as the WeChat public account of Gong Jin Studio's weibo video.
Many netizens took to social media to share their reactions to the event, praising the beautiful Suzhou embroidery art and the lifelike pandas created by Gong Zhenyu. Some also commended Da Li Ribei Ri's use of Shu embroidery and giant panda elements in their performance.
However, not all reactions were positive. Some netizens criticized the event for being too expensive and inaccessible to ordinary audiences. Others felt that some aspects of the festival, such as the designs showcased, did not fully represent Chinese culture and fashion. Despite this, the overall consensus among netizens was one of awe and admiration for VOGUE's efforts to bring fashion power to Shanghai in an unforgettable manner.
