Breast Cancer Survivor Warns of Hidden Danger in Shopping Receipts
A breast cancer patient in Guangdong, China, recently took to social media to warn others about the potential health risks associated with handling shopping receipts, sparking a heated debate among netizens. The woman, who is currently undergoing treatment, claimed that these receipts, typically printed on thermal paper, contain Bisphenol A (BPA), a chemical with weak estrogenic activity that may increase the risk of breast cancer and reproductive system abnormalities. Her warning was quickly picked up by the online community, with some expressing support and others expressing skepticism about the seriousness of the issue. However, according to experts from the Guangdong Center for Disease Control and Prevention, pregnant women, infants, and young children, as well as individuals with a high risk of cancer, should indeed limit their exposure to thermal paper receipts to minimize potential health risks.
