Cherry Truffle" Surpasses Sandy Sugar Oranges in Chinese New Year Popularity

The recent shift in focus of Chinese consumers from the traditional favorite fruit, the sweet and juicy Guangdong sandy sugar oranges, to the exotic and expensive imported cherries, known as "Cherry Truffle" in Chinese, has caught the attention of many on social media. In a recent Weibo poll, 60% of participants agreed that this year's "Cherry Truffle" has surpassed sandy sugar oranges in popularity, with 20% stating their preference for the traditional fruit. Surprisingly, 10% of participants stated that they do not consume any fruit as part of their New Year festivities, a choice that reflects the diverse and evolving tastes of China's consumers.

Cherry Truffle" Surpasses Sandy Sugar Oranges in Chinese New Year Popularity

A Twitter user named "My hat is gone again" stated, "Every year on the night of the first day of the new year, the Appointment with Spring Festival is an exciting night for the Chinese people. However, this year's protagonist is not everyone's favorite fruit, the 'Sandy Sugar Orange', but the exotic and expensive 'Cherry Truffle'." This user went on to explain, "The protagonist of the night, the 'Cherry Truffle', is not only a favorite of food-loving Chinese people, but also a symbol of wealth and status, often given as a gift to loved ones."

Many netizens have pointed out that the popularity of the "Cherry Truffle" is not only due to its high nutritional value, but also because of its unique and exotic taste. Some netizens have referred to the "Cherry Truffle" as having a "sweet and sour" flavor, while others prefer the "fruity and fragrant" taste. Additionally, the popularity of the "Cherry Truffle" is not limited to those who can afford the high price tag, as many netizens have stated that they have been able to purchase the fruit at lower prices due to the popularity of online shopping platforms.

However, some netizens have expressed concern over the environmental impact of importing the "Cherry Truffle". One user named "I don't like fruit" stated, "The high consumption of the 'Cherry Truffle' is not only bad for our health, but also bad for the environment. The fruit is flown in from far away, which means a significant carbon footprint."

In response to concerns over the environmental impact of the "Cherry Truffle", several netizens have suggested that China should invest in the domestic production of the fruit. One user named "The fruit lover" stated, "China should invest in the production of the 'Cherry Truffle' domestically, so that we can enjoy the fruit without harming the environment." Another user named "The environmentalist" agreed, stating, "It is time for China to take responsibility for its environmental impact. The 'Cherry Truffle' can be a symbol of progress, if we choose to produce it sustainably."
