Chinese Bank Employee's Alleged Bullying Death Sparks Outrage and Calls for Reform
A disturbing case has come to light in Anhui, China, where a young woman, known as Xiao Lin, allegedly took her own life after being bullied by her supervisor and colleagues at the Anhui branch of the Construction Bank of China. According to her mother, Liu, Xiao Lin was a brilliant and ambitious individual who had graduated from the University of London and the University of Science and Technology of China. She had joined the bank in 2018 through a campus recruitment program.

In November 2023, Xiao Lin had requested leave to prepare for her wedding, but her supervisor, Chen, allegedly denied her request and instead assigned her a large amount of work, including organizing three years' worth of paper archives. Chen also repeatedly called Xiao Lin into her office for discussions, which Liu believes was a form of harassment. Tragically, Xiao Lin took her own life on November 23, 2023, just a day after her supervisor's last conversation with her.
Xiao Lin's mother claims that her daughter was subjected to unfair treatment, including being assigned to organize paper archives and being repeatedly called in for talks. These talks, which Liu believes were a form of harassment, were allegedly used to intimidate and belittle Xiao Lin.
