Chinese internet celebrity Hu Wan has vehemently denied allegations of involvement in the sex trade and a romantic affair with a male celebrity, identified only as Li Yifeng. Hu emphasized that she had never engaged in any unlawful behavior and that her income comes solely from legitimate work, not from compromising her values or body. She attributed the spread of the rumors to her own inexperience in handling public relations at the time, combined with the fact that she was on vacation and unable to defend herself promptly. A fake account had also falsely claimed she was romantically involved with over 20 different celebrities, further fueling the rumors.

Hu used the opportunity to call on her fans and the public to be more rational and responsible when consuming online content, urging them to refrain from spreading baseless rumors and instead verify information before sharing. She stated that she has never had a romantic or transactional relationship with Li Yifeng, and she has never engaged in any illegal activities.

The rumors began circulating when Hu was accused of being Li Yifeng's mistress, and due to her inexperience with public relations and the timing of the incident, which occurred during a holiday, she missed the opportunity to defend herself in a timely manner. Hu's statement serves as a call to action, urging her followers to think critically and avoid spreading false information. She said, "don't spread rumors, don't defame others."

Hu's announcement has sparked a range of reactions online, with some users expressing support and admiration for her courage in speaking out, while others have raised questions about the timing of her statement. While some expressed skepticism, others praised Hu for speaking out and seeking to clear her name.

Netizens have taken to social media to share their thoughts on the matter. Some echoed Hu's plea for rationality, emphasizing the importance of refraining from spreading unsubstantiated rumors. "To all the keyboard warriors out there, remember that a person's reputation is at stake. Refrain from spreading unsubstantiated rumors and let the law handle things," one netizen wrote. Others, however, questioned Hu's motives, suggesting that she might be seeking to revive her faded fame by exploiting this controversy.

Some netizens attributed the persistence of the rumors to Hu's physical appearance, noting that her looks may have contributed to her being the subject of speculation. Hu's plea for rationality resonated with some netizens, who acknowledged that spreading unsubstantiated rumors can have real-life consequences. Ultimately, Hu's statement serves as a reminder of the importance of responsible social media behavior and the devastating consequences of online rumors.
