The case involves an 18-year old girl who was bitten by a vicious Rottweiler in Chengdu, resulting in severe injury to her right kidney. The owner of the dog had appeared in court on Oct 16th. Many have expressed concern for the girl's wellbeing and recovery, as her condition remains critical due to the risk of losing her right kidney. However, some Weibo users have used this incident as a platform to voice their opinions about owning dogs and stray animals.
One user commented that they do not understand why all the comments are focused on donating 2 million yuan. They suggested that parents should use their children's physical health to raise funds for medical procedures, surgeries and treatments as necessary, as it is a common practice. However, another user disagreed, stating that parents should not interfere with their children's physical health for money. They added that raising cats or dogs doesn't necessarily involve putting one's own value on the line.
The main controversy surrounding this incident revolves around the treatment of stray animals and dog ownership. While some people are sympathetic towards the injured girl, others have expressed concern for the fate of stray animals in the country. Many believe that authorities should be more proactive in dealing with stray animal issues rather than resorting to mass extermination.
One user pointed out that it's unfair to condemn all dogs because of one incident involving a vicious dog. They expressed their hope for the girl's recovery and emphasized the need to treat stray animals properly, acknowledging that many dogs are intelligent, kind and loyal. However, there are also users who believe that protecting oneself is a natural instinct for all living beings, especially when it comes to stray cats and dogs which can be shy and afraid of strangers.
One user expressed frustration towards dog owners who shift the blame to other parties instead of taking responsibility for their pets. They suggested that the costs and responsibilities of owning a dog should not be passed on to others, and that irresponsible pet owners should be filtered out through stricter regulations and legislation. Another user added that it's important to pursue those who are responsible for injustice and debt rather than bullying innocent dogs.
