According to court records, the incident occurred on July 27 when Nor and her 39-year-old husband, Mohamad, got into a heated argument over domestic issues. The couple, who have two young children, ages 5 months and 6 years, were driving when the argument escalated. Mohamad stopped the car and began fighting with Nor, eventually pushing her down the cliff.
Miraculously, Nor survived the fall, but suffered severe injuries, including a broken spine, fractured arms and legs, and internal injuries. Yet, she refused to give up, drawing strength from the thought of her children. As she later recounted, she did not want her kids to lose their mother.
Using her remarkable willpower, Nor crawled out of the ravine and sought help from passing motorists. She was subsequently hospitalized and treated for her injuries.
Meanwhile, Mohamad was arrested on July 31 and charged with criminal intimidation and attempted murder. According to local reports, he has a history of violence, having previously been convicted of assaulting his brother. If convicted, he faces up to 20 years in prison.
The case has sent shockwaves across Malaysia, with many taking to social media to express outrage and sympathy for Nor. On Weibo, a popular Chinese social media platform, netizens expressed their horror and admiration for Nor's bravery. One user wrote, "My god, the power of maternal love is incredible! I don't dare to imagine how she must have felt falling from such a height and still managing to crawl out for her kids."
Another user commented, "This is another example of a woman disappearing in marriage. What does marriage bring to women, anyway? It's terrifying." A third user quipped, "Malaysian version of Wang Wanyou... this is scary."
Others called for Mohamad to face severe punishment, with one user suggesting, "He should be shot, but not immediately. First, his limbs should be shot, then his torso, and finally, his head, with a 10-minute interval between each shot."
As the case continues to unfold, many are left wondering how such a heinous act could occur, and what drove Mohamad to push his wife to such extremes. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the darker aspects of domestic violence and the incredible strength and resilience of women like Nor.
In the face of such brutality, it is heartening to see the outpouring of support for Nor and her children. As one user so eloquently put it, "Motherly love is the greatest love of all. She risked everything for her kids, and we should all learn from her example."
