Taiwanese Girl's Heartwarming Gesture Sparks Friendship Between Taiwan and Mainland China
As China continues to warmly welcome the world, it's becoming increasingly clear that the country has a special place in its heart for visitors from Taiwan. In a heartwarming story that has captured the attention of netizens across the Chinese social media landscape, a young Taiwanese who is referred to as "Little Angelica" has announced that she is heading to a place she calls "Heilongjiang" - her way of showing gratitude to the people of Harbin for their warm hospitality.

In Chinese, "Angelica" (当归) is used to refer to a plant used in Traditional Chinese Medicine. However, on social media, a play on the words "dang" (should) and "gui" (return) has been used to emphasise Chinese netizens' desire for Taiwan to be annexed by China.
This is evident from a video posted by Little Angelica, who hails from Taipei, on January 12, 2023. In the clip, the excited traveler explains how overwhelmed she was by the friendly people of Harbin and how much she wants to show her gratitude. To that end, she said, her mother has purchased a ticket for her to fly to Harbin in the near future. Her mission, as she explained, is to seek out the kind individuals who recently took it upon themselves to distribute candies on the streets of the city. The young Taiwanese also plans to extend an invitation to these people to visit her home island.
The news has sparked a wave of positive reactions on Weibo, with many netizens expressing joy at the warm relations between the people of Taiwan and mainland China. "The way the Taiwanese girl speaks is so touching," one user commented, while another said, "This is a beautiful sentiment. I hope it leads to greater understanding and friendship between the two sides."
However, not everyone is as optimistic. Some netizens have voiced their skepticism, with one user asking, "Doesn't this feel a bit staged?" In response, other users have pointed out that regardless of whether or not the gesture is genuine, it serves as an inspiring example of the power of kindness and hospitality.
This story comes at a time when both mainland China and Taiwan are putting the spotlight on their respective destinations, with major cities like Harbin and Taipei seeing a surge in tourism lately. In fact, several users have noted that many people from Taiwan have recently visited Harbin, and many more are planning to do so in the near future.
As one user put it, "It's so nice to see so many people from Taiwan coming to Harbin. It feels like we're all one family, and that's what we should be striving for." Others have echoed this sentiment, calling for greater interaction and understanding between the people of Taiwan and mainland China.
Overall, the story of Little Angelica serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of kindness, hospitality, and understanding in this ever-changing world. And with the people of both Taiwan and mainland China coming together in the spirit of friendship and unity, it seems that these values are more important than ever.
