Butterfly Stalls Appear Around VOGUE China's Gala Grounds as Dilraba's Carpet Moment Turns Commerce
Days after Dilraba's rain-soaked, butterfly-releasing walk at VOGUE China's Forces of Fashion gala in Suzhou, vendors have set up stalls selling butterflies around the venue — and the plaza itself has become a fan pilgrimage site.

Lion Mountain Cultural Plaza in Suzhou, the open-air site of VOGUE China's Forces of Fashion gala, has a new retail sector. Vendors are setting up stalls selling butterflies around the venue, visitors are boating on the adjacent lake, and the plaza's own foot traffic now includes people who came, as one put it, because "the algorithm pushes Reba at me every day — so I came to see the place where she achieved legend status."

The butterfly is Dilraba's. At the gala, staged in rain, the actress released a butterfly on the carpet and declined to chase when it flew off, watching it vanish into the drizzle instead — a moment fans immediately canonised, crowning her the "carpet god." We wrote last week about how Chinese fandom times and ranks red-carpet walks to the second; this is what happens after the ranking settles and the moment becomes an asset.

The commerce moved fast. Butterfly stalls appeared at the venue gates; beauty bloggers pushed "Dilraba's same foundation" dupes; makeup artists ran imitation-makeup livestreams. One fashion blogger tallied it up under a caption calling her "the commercial-value queen made concrete." Her studio's own recap of the 1920s-themed look drew more than 100,000 likes on Weibo — the fandom engine behind the stalls outside.

The phenomenon has a name on Weibo — the "butterfly economy" — and it fits a familiar pattern: a celebrity's single unscripted instant converts into goods, services and tourism, with the gala's grounds themselves rebranded as a pilgrimage site. The traction has already escaped Weibo; Baidu's board is carrying a debate over the "three most authoritative faces in the industry," all three of them — Dilraba, Guliknazha and Liu Yifei — women who appeared at the same VOGUE event.
The gala's broadcast ended days ago. The butterflies, by every account, are still selling.
